Re: What top for a Ziricote B&S set?
I second Michael's opinion. I built a dred using zircote and sitka. The guitar is a canon. But, as always, depends on what your looking for. If you want a mellower sound then go for the redwood or cedar. Bare in mind the zircote is a brittle sort of wood. The sides bend well, but, when working the h...

Re: What music is are you particularly enjoying at the moment?
I enjoy music of all genres. With some types I reach my saturation point more quickly than with others, but, the artistry of Mozart is beyond comprehension!

Re: the need to pore fill...
As always, there's no accounting for taste. I have been doing finishes for almost forty years and would categorize finishes in two categories, though lines can blur. There are formal and informal finishes. Since finishes provide a protective layer (utilitarian) and create wood enhancement (aesthetic...

Re: Epoxy Clamping pressure
I have used epoxy for years and believe it to be the best gap filling glue (sometimes used with the micro-balloons). The main context of use was laying up laminated curved panels in furniture. Re: Carbon Fibre capped scalloped bracing
Yes, VERY clean work! And just to be clear, the black seen in the photo is the ONLY carbon fiber you used? Why just there? Why not on the upper X arms, as well? Why not over the X intersection? Jason-Since most top movement takes place in the lower bout and the X-brace being the primary component o...

Re: Carbon Fibre capped scalloped bracing
Barry- Top braces glued in normal manner, i.e., go-bar, hide glue, 25' radius. Scallop braces at full width. Glue .020 CF with T-88 epoxy. Profile braces with chisel and diamond file. Craig- For me deflection is not what is tested, but, what is noted. The process in my building is more touchy-feel y...

Carbon Fibre capped scalloped bracing
My goal was to develop a different spring effect in the top; thinking the CF would function as a reciprocating spring, owing to the fact that it was sprung opposite to the string pull on the top. I don't know if my theory panned out as intended, but, I post this as yet another technique for producin...
