Feeling the USPS price crunch?
Anyone else feeling the price hike crunch by the US post office? When I started selling plans I could ship anywhere in the world for about $10. As the prices went up I absorbed them by taking less of a profit. This latest hike sent the price of shipping a plan to Germany from about $13 to over $21. ...

Re: 3 axis router build
Another test piece, some more z-axis steps missed... evidently I need to really cut down the acceleration on my z-axis and maybe add some shielded cable to that motor. It has very distinct places where I'm running my finishing cuts that the z-axis moves a bit lower then on the previous cut path. I ...

Uke tuners
I have an old Banjo-Uke and the tuners won't keep the strings tight. I mean it's a matter of seconds and the strings go slack. Can I adjust the friction in the tuners or do I have to replace them? Here's a pic.

I recently finished this. I had a lot of help from my brothers and my wife, though.

Re: 3 axis router build
The ones I find come with a 400Hz VFD and plug into 220V but they don't state what the required input power is. I'll have to email them when I get the money together.

Re: 3 axis router build
When I was looking for suitable replacement bearings for my bosch 1608 nothing was coming up that could handle the 30,000 rpm in a permanent lube bearing. These are designed to self-destruct. I run my VS colts at about 18,000 and they will go all day at that speed. Jamie, a step-up transformer woul...

Re: Tone Wood for Electric Guitars
No finished pics, I just drew and cut the body for a friend. He's close to going public with his guitar company - I just did the prototypes. It's high-density polyethylene plastic (HDPE) and it cuts really smooth but makes a horrible mess. The final design will be in wood - this was just an experime...

How about this guy. I made this for a friend of mine out of really thick cutting board material and he said it sounded great!

Re: 3 axis router build
Nice! Beware of the DeWalt router. It won't last long in there - I had the exact model and the bearings went out quick. Also, the top bearing is just held in by the plastic housing. I changed to a Porter Cable which fit the same diameter mount but they only last about 6 months too. Next will be a re...

I use a 1/2" ball nose.David King wrote:Seems like a 1/2", 2 flute, ballnose end mill is that i see most. If your router or spindle can handle a 3/4" ballnose that might speed things up a little.

American Standard Strat Bridge Placement
Quicky question - on a 25 1/2" scale neck, what's the disctance from the neck to the mounting holes for an American Standard bridge?
