Re: HH Strat wiring mod
Just an update. Turns out the pickguard was stopping the switch from making contact in one of the last positions. I think the volume thing was due to switching between series and paralell.

Re: HH Strat wiring mod
So I finally wired the strat with this mod. It seems to work but when I go through the switches and tap pole pieces some coils are making clicks when they should be off. For example the neck pick up is always on. However it does change volume of the clicks with movement of the 4 way. I looked for sw...

Re: Varitone Inductor
thanks for the part numbers and ideas on components guys. Although I am more interested in seeing if I can reproduce the Gibson creation of old for my own amusement. How ever if i can't get close after a while, I'll get one or two of those parts and see what makes them do what they do. I thought I h...

Re: Varitone Inductor
I'm just looking to experiment a bit really. 1k resistance and fine wire is probably a good start to what I have to know. I thought I had a multimeter to test the inductors but it turns out it doesn't have that option. It wont stop me from trying though. I'll probably head to radio shack and get som...

Varitone Inductor
I have a serious problem... i read things and it makes me wanna do things haha. I began floating around the internet last night and eventually started reading into varitones and how they work. I read that Gibson used to use a 1/4 inch bolt to make a 1.5 henry inductor. I'd like to try to copy this b...

Re: want to build a dc powered pickup winder
did you think of trying to modify a sewing machine? the motor is already controllable by a foot pedal and comes with its own power supply.

Refer to the picture. Anyone see any reasons this may not work?

Re: A few random Questions
Freeman, here's a similar idea i found after i started digging deeper. http://guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=5317 Consider circuit D, except the 150k resistor in parallel with the pot. As far as i understand that would bring the 500k more within the ar...

Re: Aluminium neck relief question
I don't know a lot about about aluminum necks, but I do know a good deal about aluminum. I am a machinist by trade and if I turn a 1" aluminum pin at room temperature it could grow by as much as 2-3 thousandths of an inch. if your guitar neck is 18-20 inches from nut to heel then your looking a...

Re: A few random Questions
I began to draw up the schematic for the treble bleed circuit and I realized two things. First that it may work to a certain extent but the complexity cancels any benefits. Also it seems I am not the innovator, there is a forum somewhere else where a guy is discussing this but never draws a conclusi...

Re: A few random Questions
Where did I get my lumber? I cut the logs, drug them home and band milled em out. I'm lucky my father is a heavy DIYer. I forgot to mention i have some 1" maple boards for the top. Got some interesting grain patterns, not curly or spalted (might try to spalt some :? this spring) or anything but...

Misspelled User Name
I'm sorry but when I made my account on here i misspelled my last name. At first I really didn't care. The problem arose today when i had to look up my user name to log haha. If you could change it my name is Leon Van Bommel not Leon Van Bomel. If its unchangeable I grow to like my new name in time.

Re: "Large" On/Off/On switch
i once thought of doing a Jimmy Page type job on my Epiphone Les Paul. I wasn't a fan of push pull pots and I didn't want to drill for switches. I came to the conclusion that 4 of these may be mountable on the pickguard. You could run the wires through small groves made in the bottom of the pickup r...

A few random Questions
For those of you who noticed I'm gearing up to do my first build. I scrapped the aluminum idea, I feel like i lost an opportunity to do something neat but the miles of CNC code i had to write had me pulling my hair out. I have a few questions about things so I just figured I'd stick em all here. 1. ...

Re: Drying Wood Quickly
Wow! thanks for the speedy response. I do have to do a dry run on the mill just to make sure my code is correct and tools cut where they're supposed to with out breaking stuff, for that I'll use wax. my issue is it'll take a lot of work getting the machine running so I'd like to make a few copies on...

Drying Wood Quickly
Ok here's the story. I'm in college for machining. My teacher told us we could make what ever we want for a final project. I have full access to CNC machines and decided to finally make a guitar. I've tried a few times in my life but didn't have the tools or money to get er done right. I plan to mak...
