Re: 8 string bass
Thanks Jeff! It looks great Hi Bob - I need to correct myself  my kids tell me I have "old timers" - the bridge is a schaller 471, 8 and not a schaller 3D-8. There is a big difference... the 741, 8 has 8 holes to load the strings where as the 3D-8 only has 4. Here is a link to the s...

Hi Bob, The bridge is a schaller 3D-8

I honesty do not recall where I bought the pickups from but I bought 12 pair. They are mini humbuckers with bar magnets instead of poles under a chrome cover.

Re: Curly hard maple 4 string fretless bass
semi hollow? Nice Jeff Yes Sir - it's a semi hollow neckthrough carved top, I dyed the inside black before I glued the wings together. Here some better pics. To many winds on the E and G posts which I since corrected. https://sites.google.com/site/millscustomsawing/2015-02-21_09.47.21.jpg https://s...

Thank you David 1/8" between strings will be my starting point. I'm going to invert the strings for finger playing mainly.

String spacing 8 string bass
I'm currently building my first 8 string octave 33 1/4" scale electric bass filiing my own saddles and nut. I can find no standards anywhere on the string spacing (inbetween) strings. I drew up a full size drawing and 1/16" (inbetween) the octave pair looks good on paper. Bass strings vibr...

Hi Keith, I don't have any more pics taken but my daughter made video talking about her new bass. She used her phone to make the video and had it sitting on the amp, so you here lots of vibration when she playing. But at least shes happy with the guitar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reBu2nJ4o3Y I...

Neck-thru / Binding question
When binding a top or back on a neck-thru, is there any reason not to bind the butt end of the neck? On this one, I bound the wings then glued them to the neck. However it seems I could just cut the binding shelf in the wings, glue the wings to the neck, then cut the shelf in the butt of the neck an...

Looks mighty comfortable to play. I'm curious about the body thickness, width and height. Could you please talk a little on the body dimensions and how you arrived at the measurements you did.
Thanks

Re: Mario Labonte's Jazz bass build
When I was a foolish teenager, I had the great opportunity of learning woodworking from a very old wise man, He shared lots of wisdom nuggets with me. Many of his nuggets did not apply to woodworking persay but more to life in general. At the time I thought a lot of those nuggets were non-sense but ...

Really clean classic design rendering. I''m wondering about the truss rod adjustment is it in the heel, I think I see a hole in the scratchplate by the heel?
