Re: Side/rib reinforcements- when/where/how many?

I recently also gave the bias tape a try. My wife had some red stuff kicking around and I thought I would like good with the black acacia.

16 ga nails are also 1/16" diameter. I use brass as they are easy to nip off to length. And as Mario said, they work for many other 'locator' ideas.

Re: 100 mile guitar ??

Howard, where in BC are you? I'm in Abbotsford in the Fraser Valley. What type of guitar do you want to build? Steel string or nylon? There's different tensions depending on what you want to build. I think a short scale guitar might be doable with WRC back and sides, but you'll want to make them a b...

Re: Website to buy/sell Guitars

There is actually a very good site set up by Luthier Mark Blanchard for builders to sell their guitars http://www.guitarmakerdirect.com/index.php so to answer your question, it's worth something but it's also already happening by a very well established Luthier. Also, there's the classified section ...

Re: Making braces

I use a hydrometer to measure the sugar content, thus alcohol potential, of my homebrew, but I use a hygrometer to measure relative humidity.... Agree with Al. I've tried cutting a radius in braces by springing them(Dana Bourgeois showed us this technique some 15 years ago), but found it les...

Re: Shop tour

Arnt--that's a great-looking Fleishman-style binding jig. Kevin There are only 12 of those in the world, I'm lucky enough to have one as well. It's a very fine tool indeed. I always like seeing pictures of Arnt's shop. It's very well organaized, laid out and always looks inviting. I've gotten many ...

Re: New site and a beef

Years ago the MIMF allowed no links at all. Those rules were indeed greatly relaxed a year or two back. There is no disagreeing with that. There were certain vendors who were banned over the years, not for minor policy infractions, but for egregious violations, and Deb chose to ban them. It is her ...

Re: New site and a beef

Ian, you haven't been around in a while. We greatly relaxed the links policy a couple years ago now. Links are now permitted to almost everything except your own web site, or active auctions. See the Rules for full info. Well, I have to disagree with you here Jim. I belive that I could link to two ...

New site and a beef

Nice to see the MIMF come up to speed on the forum software. Something to note though, On EVERY other guitar/instrument makers forums out there, I can go online and say "Hey, the MIMF has new software, check it out" and post a link to it. Sad that the non-promotion of other sites is still ...

Re: Steve Smith Test topic

Why does the picture only fit into a certain size window? I can understand that this allows the MIMF the control of the picture size, but It's annoying when scrolling down the main browser window then the scrolling switches to the photo if the mouse happens to be over that area of the page. Other th...
